When you are asked to write a persuasive essay, there are a few things that you should do to find the perfect topic to write your paper on. A persuasive essay aims to give your opinion on a subject. You may want to choose a controversial issue since there are two sides and if it is very controversial, there will be a lot of information on either side of the issue. You can work to make sure that you choose just the right topic using these helpful pieces of advice.

  1. Think about controversial issues
  2. The first step is to come up with a few controversial issues that you are interested in. you can find a few issues that exist for your field of study or ones that relate to the course that you are taking. Jot these down so that you have a concrete list of possible topics to start off with.

  3. Which ones do you feel the strongest about
  4. Now look through your list and find the ones that you either fully support or fully oppose. If you sit the fence or don’t feel that strongly about one of the issues, then cross it off of your list. Work to make sure that you narrow the list down a little bit. It would be the best to choose three topics that you feel the strongest about.

  5. Write short outlines
  6. Write short outlines for each of your remaining topics. They should include your stand on the issue and then at least three reasons to support this claim. If you can’t come up with a strong thesis and the supporting reasons, you should cross it off of your list.

  7. Choose the best one
  8. If you have more than one idea left, you will want to simply choose the best one. Choose the one that you find the most interesting.
